        My name is Ruth McConnell, I am Alexis's mom. What a great project!! I have worked in the area of pediatrics as a pediatric nurse and now pediatric nurse practitioner for almost 20 years. The health of children is a huge priority for me.

        Getting involved in belly dancing and the association with this community in general has been a wonderful experience for both myself and my daughter. Besides being really fun, I loved the fact that there are girls of ALL AGES, ALL RACES, ALL SHAPES and ALL SIZES and I want my daughter to be a part of it!

        I am sure I am preaching to the choir here.... but I have seen my daughter's self-concept and body-confidence improve tremendously over the past year, values in a young girl that are priceless.

        I just received an email about your Bella Wishes Dance Troupe, and the story that they'll be promoting! Hurray! One of the reasons I started teaching little girls was to help them get through with a strong self-image. I teach a children's troupe called Ants In Your Pants Belly Dance, and they are so great, because they have not yet been brainwashed into thinking they must fit into a specific stereotype for what's beautiful. Thank you for embarking on this project. I'll be sending several of my girls to the audition

        Thanks so much for getting back to me and keep us in mind please! At age 8, one of the wonderful things about my daughter and her friend Alexis is that they are very comfortable performing - people love to see them dance - due largely to the expert instruction and guidance of their instructor, of course, Houston's own Shakira Massoud Ali - who "the girls" love dearly, and also thru the performances and friendships of our wonderful local dancers.

        I mentioned your project at our HABDA meeting yesterday and it was met with positive response.
